Playing blackjack online in the USA or almost anywhere else is easy at CoolCat Casino. The rules are simple. In blackjack, it’s you versus the dealer, regardless of whether other players are at the table. You place your bet, and the free online blackjack software deals out the cards.
Your goal is to get as close to 21 without going over. While your two cards are dealt face-up, the dealer only shows one card (the other is face-down).
Once you see your two cards, you have to decide whether you want to hit, stand, split, or double down. While it might sound a bit complex, it’s easy to understand how to play blackjack. Let’s walk through the terminology.
Stand
This means you’re not interested in any more cards. You’re happy with your hand.
Hit
This means you want another card so that you can get closer to 21 without going over.
Split
In some situations, hitting isn’t your best option. If you’ve got two cards that are the same value (two eights, for example), you can split the two cards into two separate hands. If you decide to split while you play blackjack, you’ll need to place another bet on your second card. You’ll then play each card as if it’s a new hand. The dealer will deal a second card next to your first split card. You will then decide whether to hit, stand, split, or double down once again.
Double Down
If you find yourself with a 9, 10, or 11, it might be worth it to double your bet.
If you do, you’ll get just one additional card.
Winning at blackjack in our online casino
If you go over 21 after hitting, it’s game over. The dealer will take your bet. But if your card is 21 or lower, you’re still in the game. Once all players have decided to stand, the dealer will turn over his face down card. Just like you had to decide when to hit or stand, the dealer must do the same.
The only difference is that when the dealer plays blackjack, they can’t split or double down. They must hit if they have 16 or less. And they must stand if they have 17 or higher. At CoolCat, the dealer must hit if they have a soft 17.
How bets are paid out when you play blackjack online
- If the dealer busts (goes over 21), all the players left standing win.
- If the dealer’s hand is 21 or less, but higher than your hand, you lose.
- If the dealer’s hand is 21 or less, but lower than your hand, you win.

Other blackjack rules to know about
- If you hit a combination of an Ace and a face card or an Ace and a 10, with your first two cards, it’s called hitting a Blackjack. It pays out 3 to 2, which is 1.5 times your original bet.
- You can take insurance if the dealer is showing an Ace. Insurance pays 2 to 1, which is twice the amount of your insurance bet. In case of a tie, your bet is returned to you.
- The dealer must hit a soft 17.
- If you split Aces, you’ll only receive one card per Ace.
